When it comes to building your website, there are a lot of things you can focus on right off the bat. Content, design, SEO, services, blog posts, menus, etc. Let’s chat about the most important parts of your website to focus on right now.
If your website’s bounce rate sucks, chances are, it’s because you aren’t focusing on these THREE things!
First Impressions
No matter how amazing your content is, if it’s not visually appealing, people are going to click off. If it’s a jumbled mess, who’s going to stay on? Not me!
The mind is naturally drawn to symmetry, even if you don’t know it.
Branding – Make your site consistent with fonts, colors, and style. This GREATLY helps first impressions. If you aren’t sure what you want your colors to be, browse Pinterest for some inspiration and then upload that image into Coolors to grab color codes. BAM there are your colors! Not sure what fonts to use? Check out Google Font’s HUGE selection of beautiful fonts. If you have WordPress, all you need to do is download the Easy Google Font plugin and take your pick of any of their free fonts!
Images – If your site doesn’t seem as “professional” as you want, chances are you need to update the images. Did you know stock photos can be beautiful? Sites like Unsplash and Pixabay are perfect for beautiful FREE images that you can use on your website.
Ease of Navigation
If someone can’t easily navigate through your site, they WILL click away. Don’t make your customers work to find the information they need. Have a designated Shop page, About page, and Contact page. If you have services, be sure to have a page for those too. If you have a blog, add that too. All of these pages should live in the top menu of your website.
If you take a look at the top of the page, you will see my menu filled with everything you need to navigate my site with ease!
Your About Page
While your About page is extremely important, many people struggle with writing it. If that’s you, start small! Write down 5 facts about yourself, then write down a little story that pertains to your business or where you are now. Keep it short and sweet, but interesting at the same time!
Use phrases like:
- “Some people may not know that I love…”
- “When I’m not working, you can find me…”
- “I am inspired by…”
- “I am mostly known for…”
- “When I’m not working on _(something about your business)_, you can find me…”
MOST IMPORTANTLY: Be Yourself!
Your website should 100% be a reflection of you and your brand. If your site visitor can’t find the “you” in your site, then it just fades into the rest of them and it isn’t memorable. Make your site stand out by putting in as much “you” as you can! By doing this, you WILL attract your ideal customers.
