If you own a business and aren’t on social media, it’s time you are. Unless your target audience isn’t on social media, you are missing out on a HUGE audience expansion potential. Facebook. Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, you name it. You need to be using oneĀ especially if you are selling a product.
So What is Social Media Strategy?
Before I tell you why you need one, I should explain exactly what it is.
A social media strategy is everything from which platform you are using, to what you are posting, to when. This takes some research, so be ready for that. Know your audience down to the demographics and trends. Believe it or not, there are specific times of the day when you should be posting to Instagram, and certain times of the day when you should be posting to Facebook, and yes, they are different. You should have your posts outlined for the week, at least, so you don’t get behind or off track.
Keep all of this in mind when you read on. Now let’s talk why you need one.
5 Reasons Your Brand Needs a Social Media Strategy
1. Build a Strong Presence for your Brand
Social Media is going to be the portfolio of your brand’s best features. What do you want to show to your audience? When you go to the top brands on Instagram, you will notice they all have direction and purpose. So stop the low quality selfies, and put an end to the grainy picture of what you had for lunch, and put purpose behind every picture you post.
2. Keep your Brand Relevant
Let’s face it, if you come across someone who isn’t on social media you are shocked, right? The same is true for brands. Imagine going to look up Nike’s Twitter and realizing they don’t have one. You would be surprised and might even question what the heck Nike’s marketing team is doing! Even if your business isn’t “huge” yet, act like it is! Fake it till you make it! Post as if you have 1 million followers. Seriously, do it.
3. Beat Out your Competition
Your brand doesn’t have to, and shouldn’t, be on every platform. Social media can be overwhelming, so find your niche market and build your following. If you aren’t on the right platform, you could be wasting your time. For example, if you are a freelance babysitter, you probably don’t need to be on Instagram, but you should be posting on Facebook regularly. You can promote your page/services in parenting groups, but chances are a parent won’t be on Instagram looking for someone to babysit their kids. Know your audience.
4. Save Yourself Time
Everyone knows that when you have a to-do list, you are more productive throughout the day. The same idea applies to social media. It can be hard to stay inspired to post every day when you don’t know what to post. Take some time on Sunday to plan out your week. Take pictures, plan posts, plan your schedule. You can even use social media planning tools if you really want to go above and beyond. That way you have no excuse not to post. Consistency is key.
5. Get Discovered!
The more consistent you are, the more people are going to notice you. Through hashtags, shares, likes, and comments, your chances are for being found by potential customers increase exponentially. Fun fact: 71% of consumers who have had a good social media service experience with a brand are likely to recommend it to others!
At the end of the day, social media is one of the best ways to to build brand awareness. When you go about social media with the right strategy in place, the possibilities are endless! Not sure you can do it yourself? Let me show you what I can do.
